Highlights from the 2022 NORD Summit:

FDA Commissioner Keynote
Dr. Robert Califf, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner, delivered the keynote address, discussing the importance of patient involvement and even announced new FDA orphan products grants live on stage!
A Moving Patient and Caregiver Opening Address
Rare disease community members, Brittany Clayborne, MS, PsyD (who recently moderated a session at our Living Rare Forum!), Nakisha Isom, and Annie Papik, discussed their experiences with different rare conditions and how they connected with others for information, support, and inspiration.
In-Depth Discussions with the FDA and NIH
In two standout sessions, experts from the NIH and the FDA led us in captivating and informative panels on days one and two, respectively.

The NIH Town Hall, featuring PJ Brooks, PhD, Jill Morris, PhD, and John Tisdale, MD, provided updates on rare disease initiatives including the Bespoke Gene Therapy Consortium.

The FDA Plenary Panel, featuring John Concato, MD, MS, MPH, Donna Rivera, PharmD, MSc, Zhenzhen Xu, PhD, Anne McMahon, MD, MS, and Felipe Aguel, PhD, focused on the importance of real-world data (RWD) and real-world evidence (RWE).

"As we continue our transition into the advocacy world, NORD will be a shining light in our journey. I am confident the tools and resources provided will take us to the next level. We are excited for the future and full of hope."
